Wetland development still under consideration

By Yvette C. Hammett

BRANDON -- Plans to build a RaceTrac gas station at the corner of Lumsden Road and Kings Avenue hinge on whether the Hillsborough County Environmental Protection Commission allows destruction of wetlands there.

A wetlands impact request before the EPC remains under consideration, said Mike Thompson of the agency's wetlands management division.

Meanwhile, a hearing on the application to modify the planned development on that corner has been postponed. A major modification is required to build a gas station there.

The application's hearing before a Hillsborough County zoning hearing master has been postponed until Aug. 13 but may be pushed back to October.

The land owner wants to build the gas station on 2.5 acres right at the southeast corner. Of that, 1.5 acres is wetlands.
