Water lines laid nearly a half-century ago to be upgraded

Alana Knight can't wait to be done with the dingy, dark water that occasionally spills from her home faucets on Asturias Place.

And Pat Leibfried, who lives on San Marco Place, is happy she'll be rid of the stench that often accompanies her showers.

The Hillsborough County Public Works Department is about to replace water pipes in Evergreen Estates that date back nearly a half-century.

The $400,000-project is set to get under way in July and should be completed by November.

Project Manager Cindy Hutchens met May 29 with a handful of residents from the community, wedged northeast of U.S. 301 and Causeway Boulevard to update them on the project plan.
