Upper Tampa Trail Construction Project Completed

A portion of the popular Upper Tampa Bay Trail, closed since the end of August for a water pipeline construction project, reopened as scheduled Saturday, Oct. 30. The entire seven miles of the trail is now open. This portion of the trail has been closed since late August as Tampa Bay Water constructed a pipeline that will deliver up to 15 million gallons of drinking water per day to the Northwest Hillsborough Potable Water Treatment Facility. The trail was closed from Gardner Road to Manhattan Drive, a section of trail near the Citrus Park Mall. The trail remained open to the north and south of the construction area so portions of the trail could still be used during construction. The paved multi-purpose trail is used by walkers, runners, bicyclists and in-line skaters for recreational purposes. The trail, located in northwest Hillsborough County, is also a transportation corridor for some citizens and is located adjacent to a HART bus transfer station near Waters and Sheldon Roads.
