This Florida Matters delves into fertilizer policy. Sarasota County recently passed an ordinance regulating how much and when lawn fertilizer can be applied to help stem runoff pollution. Supporters are hoping to take it statewide. But, it’s grown into a power struggle over who controls what you can put on your lawn - state or local officials.

The Adopt-A-Pond web page has been added to the Hillsborough County Watershed Atlas. You can find all of the reporting forms, newsletters, applications, policies, information, news updates, and even a map of all the ponds in the program.

The meetings will present the initial findings of the Comprehensive Canal Dredging and Preventative Measures Study (CCDPM). The affected communities include Bayport, Baycrest, Essex Downs and Dana Shores in the north county and Alafia River, Apollo Beach and Ruskin in the south county. During the meeting, staff will present the bathymetric data from each of the communities as well as the results from initial soil and water quality testing. Attendees will be given an opportunity to meet with staff and receive information regarding their particular area of interest.

The meeting for the south canals will take place on October 10, 2006 at East Bay High School (7710 Big Bend Rd, Gibsonton, 33534). The meeting for the north canals will take place at Sickles High School on the October 11, 2006 at the Sickles High School (7950 Gunn Hwy, Tampa, FL 33626). Both metings begin at 6:30 PM.
